NOTE-WORTHY

  • No politician

Apart from showing how weak our dollar is, I think having the image of a politician on the proposed $5,000 note is a slap in the faces, of our people. Why do the politicians always glorify their colleagues by having their names and images featured as all matters of public interest?

Jamaica is blessed with an abundance of people worthy of such an honour. We have notable sports men/women, businessmen, artists and writers, people who have excelled in the field of science and medicine. We are blessed to have people such as Mallica 'Kapo' Reynolds, Louise Bennett-Coverley, T. P. Lecky, Bob Marley, George Headley, and the list is inexhaustible.

Successive political parties coming into office only seem to try and cement their colleagues in the annals of Jamaica's history to ensure posterity, for their own political interest and gains. I acknowledge that the politicians have done a lot for the country, but not more than most of our richly talented people.

  • Two 'so-so' notes?

It is so hard for me to fathom going to the bank to withdraw $10,000 and only coming out with two single notes. That's just a disgrace. We are running down Haiti big time when it comes to poverty. It breaks my heart to hear when tourists come to Jamaica and then go to other islands and talk about how poor the country is.

The people who are in positions to help don't care for our nation. Most of them are just there to show their authority, and scheme and scam what they can, and make their families live a sophisticated life, and show off on poor people, and then go to another country, and our governments allow that.

  • An appeal for Granville

This is an appeal to whichever agency is responsible for maintaining the main road through Granville, St James, adjoining Chambers Drive leading through to Tucker, St James, and the drain that runs alongside this roadway.

This road has been in an awful state of disrepair for several years with large potholes all over.

The drains have been blocked for months and now that the rains have started, garbage is being deposited into the yards of residents and filthy water is collecting in pools along the road.

This road is an access road to Sam Sharpe Teachers' College, the Granville HEART Training Institute and the Granville Primary School.

Unfortunately, this community has been branded and marred by violence, but we the residents are mostly law-abiding taxpayers who are even more stressed by car repairs due to the bad roads. We would really appreciate some relief.
