Wicketkeeper batsman Chadwick Walton cracked a delightful 136 to put Kingston Tigers in a good position to claim at least first innings honours over the Manchester Lions as the second season of the JCA Super League got under way yesterday.

Walton, who represented the Combined Colleges and Campuses (CCC) in the just-concluded regional four-day championship, topscored for the Tigers as Kingston, batting first, made 309.

The Lions, with Antiguan Runako Morton in their line-up, then reached 23 without loss when stumps were drawn.

Returning from injury

Leg-spinning all-rounder and former Tigers captain, Kerry Scott, made 48.

Bowling for the Lions, left-arm seamer Khrismar Santokie claimed 3-28 and pacer Dwight Stewart 2-13. Walton's CCC teammate Simon Jackson, who is just returning from injury, could only manage 15.

Elsewhere, reigning champions St Catherine Saints, helped by two wickets late in the afternoon from pacer Andre Russell, are in a good position to claim a first innings lead over last year's runners-up Trelawny Buccaneers in their game at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

St Catherine first made 281 with Damion Bryce getting 83, Danza Hyatt, 45, and Shacoya Thomas 31 against Kemar Allen 4-55 and Barbadian Ryan Hinds 3-86. Trelawny, in reply, reached 18-2 with Russell grabbing 2-18.

Well on the way

Over at Melbourne Oval, the home team, behind 69 not out from Donovan Pagon, is well on its way to securing first innings over the Westmoreland Wanderers.

The Kangaroos first dismissed the Wanderers for 227 with leg-spinner Damion Jacobs grabbing 7-70 and Tafari Williams 3-56. Melbourne, in reply, then reached 150-2 with Jacobs scoring 42. Pacer Jason Dawes has taken one for 30 so far.

The other match-up between St Elizabeth Warriors and debutants the Hanover Dolphins at Alpart was cut short at 2:30 p.m. by rain after St Elizabeth were dismissed for 208.

Brenton Parchment, 85, and Shawn Findlay, 56, topscored for the Warriors, while bowling for the Dolphins, off-spinner Ziggy Levy took 6-70 and Jermaine Blackwood 3-26.
