CCTV for buses

The Editor, Sir:

Having just read that the Jamaica Urban Transit Company will be placing police personnel on their buses in an effort to reduce crime, I am wondering why they don't fit closed-circuit TV cameras on these vehicles, for the following reasons:

The camera never lies; the camera doesn't take a break; they wont go on strike; they record and store images of lawbreakers. The cameras would also be able to monitor bus operators' wrongdoings (if any). Human life is priceless and should be protected at any cost. However, in this instance, I feel that cameras on the buses would be more cost-effective and would be even helpful to the police. Wrongdoers don't want their pictures to be taken.

I think the JUTC should take a serious look at this option.
