Trinidadian soca artiste Destra Garcia reflected on carnival in Jamaica without Byron Lee after her energetic performance at Bacchanal last week Friday at Mas Camp.

After her spirited performance, Garcia said she enjoyed the response by the crowd, but that it was not quite the same without Lee.

"Byron Lee is definitely gonna be missed. His spirit represents carnival and his spirit is still with us. He is the person that brought me here for the first time so I will always remember him," Garcia said.

With Trinidad Carnival off her plate, Garcia said she was excited about the rest of the carnival season.

Carnival season

"It's always a pleasure to be here (Jamaica). I feel a lot of love from the Jamaican people," she said.

Destra said she would take a month-long break before performing in Toronto and St Marteen. She said that would be followed by approximately four shows each month until November when the carnival season starts again.
