BCJ needs to do more
Published: Wednesday | February 11, 2009
I want to commend the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) for finally doing something about the songs being played on our public radio stations. For too long, too many songs which condemned and disrespected women were allowed to be played publicly.
However, I think the BCJ must go even further and monitor religious services and political conferences that are aired on our public media. Sometimes, some of our ministers of religion are overwhelmed with 'the spirit' and as such they tend to condemn and more so try to divide our nation along denominational lines.
Also, some of these ministers preach fire and brimstones on every Jamaican lifestyle.
Politicians may be in need of a 'super' broadcasting commission to monitor some of the foolishness and half truths and threats which they issue. I would urge Bruce Golding to get the BCJ to monitor everyone.
I am, etc.,
