Immaculate's Elliott stars in hurdles

Immaculate Conception High's Samantha Elliott was the star performer at yesterday's Youngster Goldsmith Hurdles and Field Events meet held at the Stadium east complex.

Elliott, a national junior representative, was in superb form, winning the girls' Class Two 100m hurdles in 13.87 seconds.

So impressive was Elliott's victory, she had time to look back before crossing the finish line ahead of Morant Bay's Tonique Sobah (14.18) .

Women's victories

Vere, with Peta-Gaye Williams (10.88) and Tishana Monteith (11.20), picked up first and second place in the Class Four 70m event, while Holmwood's pair of Osheen Erskine (11.81) and Janieve Russell (11.89) did the same in the Class Three 80m event.

Keisha Wallace of Wolmer's (14.34) won the Class One 100m hurdles ahead of Holmwood's Audrea Segree (14.57)

On the boys' side, Warren Weir of Calabar (14.05) took the Class One 110m event while Kingston College's (KC) Lemmar Wilson (14.40) took Class Two. The Class Three 100m hurdles event went to Ardenne's Twayne Gordon.

In the 400m events, Holmwood's Petra Fanty, a Class Two athlete, recorded the day's fastest time, 56.29 seconds to take her division.

Fanty, the 2006 Class Four sprint double champion, led a Holmwood one-two-three in the class as Samantha Woodburn, who won the Class Three event in 2007 for St Jago, and Allison Daley, finished second and third in 57.02 and 58.21, respectively.

In Class One, Latoya McDermott, the 2007 World Youth silver medallist from St Andrew High, was easy in 56.65.

Excelsior High's Shanika Reynolds took Class Three in 58.62.

In the boys' section, Nickel Ashmeade, the World Junior 200m silver medallist, of St Jago (48.93) was second in the Class One event, which was won by his teammate Marvin Green (48.35).

Jovan Williams, also of St Jago, took Class Two in 49.15 while Jamaica College's (JC) Romaine Headman (53.69) topped Class Three.

Field events

In the field, Edwin Allen's Ann-Marie Duffus (5.88m) won the girls' Class One long jump while Camperdown's Nickevea Wilson (5.37m) took Class Two.

Calabar's Marlon Thompson (7.17m) won the boys' Class One long jump. Vere's Kerrima Blake (1.65) and St Elizabeth Tech-nical's Rochelle Reid were the victors in the Classes One and Two high jump respectively.

Candicia Bernard of St Hugh's (38.36m), St Andrew High's Danecia Mitchell (35.04m) and Holmwood's Gleneve Grange (29.12m) were winners in Classes One, Two and Three discus, respectively.
