Leaders August Town will look to put some daylight between themselves and the second-placed Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), when the teams meet in a KSAFA/Claro Super League top-of-the-table clash at the UWI Bowl, set to begin at 3 p.m. today.

However, having just lost their lead last week, following a 1-1 draw with Bull Bay, nothing would satisfy the army men more than a win over the front-runners, which would be good enough for them to reclaim that status.

"We will definitely make some adjustments playing against them tomorrow. They are a talented team, but at the same time we can't afford to show them too much respect," said JDF coach Owen Nelson.

Coaches optimistic

"Our trend so far this season has been to play better away from home, I hope that continues and I think we have a good idea regarding some of their weaknesses," he said.

"We are a tactical team and we will stick to that, but it's important that the guys are able to compete for 90 minutes and hopefully come away with a positive result," he added.

August Town's coach, Calvert Fitzgerald, while wary of the JDF, is optimistic.

"A loss or draw could see us fall as far back as third place. In the next two weeks we are looking to establish at least a four-point cushion," Fitzgerald said.

"They are a hard-running and physical team, it is always a challenge playing the JDF, but we are very well-prepared for the game.

"If we are going to win the Super League, these are the type of games that we will have to win, against the top teams," he said.

August Town currently hold the lead with 17 points, while the JDF are second on 16.

Waiting to slip through the back door should either team lose or if they play their way to a draw will be Cavalier, who are third on goal difference. But they must find a way to get the better of fourth-place and goal-thirsty Bull Bay, in a tough encounter at Bull Pen.

Defensive team

While Bull Bay are yet to score more than one goal in a game, they have proven to be one of the league's better defensive teams to date.

Hoping to keep pace with the leaders, fifth-place Constant Spring will tackle a struggling Police National team (winless in their last few games), at the Constant Spring Complex.

Finding the going tough since being promoted, bottom-of-the-table Liguanea are unlikely to get their first win of the season, despite playing host to an inconsistent seventh place Santos.

Another promoted team, Real Mona, will look for their third win of the season, when they host Maverley/Hughenden at Buttercup Park.
