What can be done to improve parenting in our society?

Vernon Brackett, counsellor:

Some of the problems that we as teachers experience in the classroom are a result of poor parenting skills. Therefore, I strongly believe that parenting should be part of the school's curriculum, beginning in the secondary institutions.

Shellian Walters, worker:

We have to educate the parents because most of them are children themselves and don't know anything about parenting. They must first be informed so that they can provide for their child, both mentally and financially. When I say educate the young mothers, I'm talking about values and attitude.

Mary A. Reid, store clerk:

A lot of parents work long hours, so they end up not spending enough time with their kids. These parents these days need guidance; they need someone to teach them how to be a parent, period! Grandparents are even too young in today's society so great-grand parents need to step up.

Veneita Finlayson, chef:

The young parents need counselling and guidance from the older folks. The older folks need to make it their point of duty to guide the younger mothers and fathers. What you have to do is have an organised meeting or a seminar for the young parents where the experienced and older folks will educate them.
