I love movies just as much as I love music. If you're anything like me, then you'll have a couple of boxes of old video cassettes lying around the house, waiting to be copied over to DVD. Video-capturing and editing kits are nothing new, but this device from KWorld is the smallest I have seen to date.

This amazing device is twice the width of a USB (Universal Serial Bus) memory stick and roughly the size of a USB TV tuner. One end has a standard USB port for connecting to your notebook or personal computer, while the other end has a mini-USB port. This is attached to a cable that can be hooked up to your camcorder, video or even DVD player and offers video, S-Video and audio inputs.

Simple issue

The adapter itself has a button to press, once you are ready to start copying and the process just about runs itself after that. You'll need to install drivers, which is a simple issue. Instead of running its own video-converting software, KWorld has linked up with Cyber Link, so you'll find Power Director 6 and Power Producer 4 software coupled with the package.

One of the advantages of using this software is that it allows you to determine the size of the final footage, even allowing you to convert videos directly for your iPod, PSP (PlayStation Portable) or online, using YouTube.

This is the simplest video-converting device I have used so far, and to be honest, I don't think it can get any simpler. Although it was so simple to use, we found that the audio starts to split if you run it for over 30 minutes. But, for shorter clips, it is more than excellent on the average notebook or personal computer.

Conclusion

This isn't a device for making high-definition videos, but is a quick and easy alternative to converting videos into data format for editing on computers. The KWorld DVD Maker 2 works exceptionally for converting short videos to data and deserves four out of a possible five stars.
