WESTERN BUREAU:

Teachers and students of the Falmouth Infant School in Trelawny arrived at the institution yesterday morning to find that it had been burglarised.

The thieves removed a computer and related equipment, two CD players, paint and ransacked the office cabinet and cupboards.

It is theorised that the thieves had an intimate knowledge of the school's operations as the offices robbed were the domain of two teachers with financial responsibilities. The teachers operate the canteen and a savings club.

Officials at the institution were visibly distraught.

"The school was broken into in July and they took computers," said one member of staff, who requested anonymity. "The school was able to beg and get back a system and players to help with the teaching and it is all gone again."

The Gleaner understands that the thieves gained entry by breaking the lock on the outer grille, and removing the hinges on the inner grill, before breaking the door down.

President of the school's parent-teacher association, Levi Swaby, condemned the action.

"It is apparent that persons with better judgement cannot be appealed to, so therefore the Ministry of Education has to deploy a watchman to the facility," he said.

He also urged parents and other members of the community with information on the incident to cooperate with the police. The school has been plagued by robbery in the past six years.
