The National Stadium came alive last Sunday, December 28, not for a sporting event, but for the Beres Hammond, A Moment in Time show. Veteran artistes came together on the same stage with soul singer Freddie Jackson and all gave sterling performances.
Shortly after seven o'clock, the venue began filling up with patrons, some dressed to the nines in all the season's designs. Though the line-up of the show was a closely guarded secret, Hammond had set the bar high with last year's event, so everyone was anticipating great performances. And they were not disappointed.
The usual master of ceremonies was not a part of the deal so, without the usual interruptions, the show ran smoothly. As one mystery artiste was revealed and left the stage, another was heralded via high-technology widescreen 'announcement'. The list included The Mighty Diamonds who rocked the crowd with their hit songs, When the Right Time Come and Pass Di Kutchie. Other great performances came from Yogie, John Holt, Barrington Levy and Gregory Isaacs.
But the night's big surprise was Freddie Jackson. He gave a stunning performance, thrilling all the women present. He paved the way for Beres Hammond who got everyone on their feet and all couples in a huddle. The night ended on a high note.
Among those who came out to experience a moment in time were: Bruce Bowen (Scotiabank), Andrew Reid (Pepsi), Lisa Lewis (Digicel), Shaggy, Judith Green (RBTT), Anya Schnoor (Scotia DBG Investments), Sharon Bailey (Tastee), Richard and Lisa Chen (Super Plus), Simon Crosskill, Martin Lewis, producer for the event, Jean Lewis, Roderick and Annette Lewis, Portia Simpson Miller and hubby Errald, Yvonne Myrie, Annette Salmon of Twenty/20 Strategies; Leon Preston Robinson, events promoter Sydney Roberts in from Florida; Captain Horace Burrell; Michael McMorris, Carlene Davis and hubby Tommy Cowan.
Nadisha Deenah made a grand entrance in her orange and yellow dress.
The Beckford girls, Caroline (left) and Kathleen, came out to enjoy the show.
It's a red-hot affair, and Flamze Smith and friend, Omar Campbell, are looking quite smashing.
