St Georges extended their exceptional winning form at their home ground, Lynch Park in Buff Bay, turning back high-riding Boys' Town 2-1 in their Digicel Premier League game yesterday.

The goals for the Portland team were scored in the 15th minute by captain Denroy Dennis and in the 67th minute by substitute Damion Harwood. Boys' Town's consolation goal was scored in the 79th minute by George Vernal.

At the start of play, Boys' Town clearly looked the better team in terms of ball possession and passing as Vernal, Wayne Ellis, Shawn McKoy and Michael Campbell took the attack early to Georges, who were forced to defend through Hillelide Dean, Dwayne Holmes, Barrington James and Gary Banton.

Counter paid off

But as Georges started to counter, it paid off in the 15th minute when Ricardo Watson fired a cannon from 20 yards out, which was blocked by Kirk Porter in the Boys' Town goal.

Dennis followed the shot and tapped home the rebound to give the home team a one-nil lead.

As Georges started to press for a second goal, Watson was stomped in the chest by Ellis, who picked up his second yellow card of the match, which reduced Boys' Town to 10 men in the 37th minute.

St Georges started the second half in an offensive fashion and their coach Geoffrey Maxwell made a tactical move by bringing on Harwood to replace Watson in the 66th minute, just as the home team was awarded a free kick.

Daniel Shaw curved the free kick to the left of Porter, which found the unmarked Harwood, who doubled the score.

That goal had the entire Lynch Park buzzing for close to 45 seconds, as fans screamed and shouted for their team.

Boys' Town managed to pull one back in the 79th minute, when Vernal collected a loose ball and fired from the edge of the 18-yard box, beating Anthoniel Williams in goal.

"Yes, we got all three points, but I believe this is one of our worst performances. I am happy for the win, but disappointed with how we played," said Maxwell.

Boys' Town's technical director, Andrew Price, blamed his team for squandering numerous scoring opportunities.

"We should have won this game" said Price. "Everyone knows that when you come to Lynch Park, you have to give your best so as to beat Georges."

He added: "Full credit to them and we just have to go back to the drawing board and ensure that we win our next game."
