Make good use of CCTV

The implementation of closed-circuit cameras on the streets of May Pen, Clarendon is a step in the right direction by the authorities. This simple step is indeed a giant leap towards crime fighting. I have for a long time believed that Caribbean countries need to utilise current technologies to fight crime, and the use of closed-circuit cameras is one such technology.
I propose that part of the philosophy that is to drive crime solving must be transparency. We have seen that where darkness (mentally, physically or literally) prevails, crime succeeds. Dark streets are havens for rapes, murders, robberies and only God knows the extent of what else.
Implementation
It is time for us all to know what is happening on our streets. The fact is many who know what is happening are paralysed by fear and have no power to act. The police must use closed-circuit cameras as part of an integrated intelligence-gathering system to bring transparency to the mystery of crime on our streets.
It would also be very helpful if every business place also include closed-circuit camera systems as part of their security arrangement.
