Ridiculous policing

The Editor, Sir:

It would be rather surprising if our highly effective and intelligence-driven police force fails to net the big fish behind the arms haul reported recently. They have arrested the driver, which is always an excellent place to start, since drivers contracted to haul contraband are always aware of the value of their cargo, as well as items hidden in television sets, car parts and garden tools.

Of course, less efficient police officers would have pretended not to have found the stash, trailed the driver in unmarked cars and nabbed the consignee red-handed, receiving the goods. Perhaps they would have been more interested in finding the command centre, instead of alerting the would-be distributors that their shipment had been discovered. No, the driver is the key to the puzzle.

How brilliant!
