Doctor's advice - Sex and the older husband
Published: Sunday | December 28, 2008

I love him, and he says he loves me. He is real keen to get married. He has enough money to look after me. We get on well and have a great time together.
But what is making me fret, Doc, is this. I am a pretty passionate woman. At present, he is more than keeping me 'satisfied'. However, I do not know what will happen as he gets older. I am aware of the fact that when I am 40, he will be 64. And when I am 50, he will be 74.
That seems quite old to me, and I do not suppose that at that age he will be interested in having sex with me.
Years ago, a friend of mine married a much older guy, who was quite rich. But their sex life stopped when he reached 60. Pretty soon, she began to get really frustrated, so she started cheating on him. It all ended with the marriage breaking up, in great bitterness.
I do not want the same thing to happen to me. Will my man be able to continue satisfying me when he gets older?
A. What strikes me at once is that you and this guy apparently love each other. You get on well together, and have a very good sex life. So, I believe that you should go ahead and marry him.
Now what about the question of virility? Well, at the moment, he is remarkably active in bed for a guy his age, way above average for a guy in his late 50s!
Will he be able to continue like this? Probably not, because frequency of intercourse almost always gets a little less as the years go by. However, provided he remains fit and healthy, it is probable that he will be able to have sex with you for many years.
American research has shown that even at age 70, the great majority of men are interested in sexual intercourse and are still potent.
What about those males who 'lose their nature' as they get older? Well, thanks to the discovery of various methods of treatment - including the drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra - most of these guys continue having sex for as long as they wish.
Turning to other matters, I feel you must bear in mind that your man is likely to be hit by infirmities and illnesses at a time when you are still fairly young and fit. For instance, when you are only 59, he will be 83, an age at which most folks have quite a number of ailments. If you can cope with that prospect, I think you should not hesitate to marry the guy who you love. I wish you both well.
A. Many guys have a slight bend. This is of no importance. But it could become more severe, making intercourse difficult or even impossible.
What concerns me is the possibility that you might have Peyronie's disease, a progressive condition in which the organ becomes extremely bent. Fortunately, this disorder is curable, by having an operation.
So it is important that you now ask a doctor to examine your penis for signs of Peyronie's disease. Of course, he will not be able to see it when it is not erect. To overcome this difficulty, you should show him a PHOTO of your erection - for instance, one taken on a mobile phone.
A. Well, a catheter is a tube, usually made of rubber. They push it up the urinary tube to let the urine out. Inserting one is uncomfortable but certainly not agonising. Try not to fret.
A. Yes. However, researchers have found that oral sex is less dangerous than vaginal intercourse or rectal intercourse. If you are fearful of catching HIV, go to a doc now and have a test.
A. Well, HRT replaces the woman's own female hormones, which are at low levels after the menopause.
Most commonly, HRT is given in tablet form. There are various types of these pills. If you have had a hysterectomy (that is, womb removal), you will probably be given oestrogen tablets.
But if you still have your womb, taking oestrogen by itself might cause womb cancer. So, in order to protect the womb, the docor will give you tablets which also contain a medication called a progestogen'
These combined tablets will cause a monthly bleed, just like the menses. I am sure your doc will give you the right tablets. I shall return to the subject of the menopause next week.
A. Certainly! Research has now shown that women are more likely to have multiple orgasms as they grow older. Very often, ladies have their first multiple-climax experience over 40. So, next time you are in a relaxed and loving mood with your partner, and have had an orgasm, just get him to stimulate your clitoris for a while. You may well surprise yourself by discharging again.
A. No, there certainly isn't. A lot of younger guys do 'fancy' women who are mature and sophisticated - and who have more experience of the world than younger females.
