JAMAICA'S ANDREW Moss is still celebrating his success at the Regional Remote Control Championship, which concluded in Barbados recently. Moss won the Team's Title Race Championship, which saw Jamaica finishing ahead of Barbados, Guadeloupe, Trinidad and Tobago, and Martinique.

Explaining how the small cars actually compete against each other, Moss said the cars were monitored by remote controls. The respective drivers then stand on a 10-foot high platform, over-looking the track. This enables them to operate the cars more effectively.

Accidents

"It is similar to the type of car racing which takes place at Dover, the only difference is that the cars are operated by remote controls, sometimes there are accidents and we have to repair the damage and start again," said Moss.

At the Barbados Remote Control Championship, Moss competed in the 110 On Road Class, which he won, but failed to qualified for the 1/8 On Road Class finals. The cars in the 110 Class are about 11 inches long by five inches wide.

"This is the biggest event I have ever won since driving remote controls cars for over the past three years," said Moss. "It is very technical, but somewhat expensive," he further said.

Excellent performance

Jamaica's Gary Sailsman finished third in the Off Road Buggy Race, which was won by Martinique.

"I think was an excellent performance it by the Jamaicans. This was the biggest RC championship in the English-speaking Caribbean and we were not aware of the talents from the other countries, I think we did well," commented Douglas Day, president of Remote Control Association in Jamaica.

Come next year, Jamaica is looking forward to compete in at least four regional events, which are scheduled to take place in Guadeloupe, Trinidad and Barbados. Jamaica will host one of the events.
