In defence of Mugabe
Published: Tuesday | December 16, 2008
Who are you to call for the removal of awards to a sitting president? Do you know the full situation in Zimbabwe? Do you know what a sanction is? Do you know what the effects of such are? Are you aware of the specific nations which have called for and imposed sanctions? Do you know when the sanctions started?
All this began because Mugabe decided that the land should be returned to the indigenous people which the white farmers could not swallow. They were told to revisit the Lancaster House deal with Britain which would have compensated them, some the descendants of thieves, for their improvements on the land. Britain did compensate some farmers and they moved on, but then Britain stopped compensating, which left others in a bind. Mugabe said he wouldn't wait around another 20 years for Britain to act and continued with the land reform. Suddenly, they decided he was a despot and had to be removed. Everything that has gone wrong in Zimbabwe is now Mugabe's fault. The printing press stopped issuing paper to the African nation; they couldn't even get marriage certi-ficates, only if justices of the peace had paper they could get. Now cholera is Mugabe's fault. Did you consider how stupid it sounds to blame the president of a nation when there is a disease outbreak. Are you blaming Golding for the spread of AIDS in Jamaica or Brown in England for being rated the most promiscuous nation recently? Morgan Tsvangirai goes to play golf when asked to meet to discuss issues.
The queen of England recently rescinded her little award there and President Mugabe took it in stride. He has seven degrees that he worked for himself. You are making a case and fighting for the wrong side. Don't be an Askari. I believe Mugabe is one of whom Claude McKay wrote about - "pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back".
Why don't you write 'Mugabe should go as long as the incoming government keeps the land reform intact? Something tells me this is not your point of interest whatsoever.
I am, etc.,
