Tribute to alife well lived

Published: Tuesday | December 16, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT WAS with great sorrow that I heard the news of the passing of Mr Hartley Neita. Here was a great man of journalism, prime minis-ters' spokesman, a family man, who shared his upbringing of over 78 years with us, his readers. His nostalgic remembrances, published in your paper, were not only entertaining, but a good history lesson for those of us interested in our country's past.

Historic columns

Just last week, I emailed him information on Vernamfield's connection to my alma mater, St George's College, in response to a request for information for another book he was writing. I can only hope that he has left you enough information to continue his historic columns for years to come.

To his family, friends and associates, I offer my and a grateful nation's condolences for a life well lived.

I am, etc.,
