CARIB CEMENT walked away with the most awards at the 70th annual KSAFA/Western Sports Business House Football Association (BHFA) ceremony at the Scotiabank Sports Club, Old Hope Road, on Tuesday night.

Carib Cement won the Scotia-bank five-a-side competition at the beginning of the season and then captured the Division One and KO titles, as well as the dress parade.

As if that weren't enough, Carib Cement, who defeated the Gleaner 3-2 in extra time to capture the $60,000 Division One prize, won the most prepared team award, while Paul Laidley and Devon Howell, both from Carib Cement, copped awards as coach of the year and Division One winning manager, respectively.

Final award

Carib Cement's Jermaine 'Fast Car' Rowe won the leading goalscorer award with eight goals, while teammate Alexi Dobson secured the MVP of the final award.

Other Division One awards went to The Gleaner (runners-up and best defensive team awards) and Supreme Ventures (best attacking team with 21 goals).

Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) collected the Division Two championship trophy and $40,000, having beaten Cable and Wireless 4-2 on penalties in the final.

Division Two campaigners Petrojam walked away with the award for having won the Scotiabank KO competition, upstaging The Gleaner on penalty kicks in the final while Petrojam's Aphas Bernard and Unicomer's Locksley Thompson copped awards as joint leading scorers with four goals apiece. Raymond Quallo, the coach of Petrojam, won the award for manager of the year.

The Abe Alexander Memorial Award was presented to former KSAFA president Ambassador Stewart Stephenson for outstanding administration in the development of football.

Guest speaker was former Prime Minister Edward Seaga, current chairman of the Premier League Clubs Association.

Noting that football is the most popular and best-organised sport in the world, Seaga went on to praise national interim coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore for taking Jamaica this far.

"What he has done for football ranks only with what (Usain) Bolt has done for athletics," said Seaga.

Seaga went on to congratulate the Business House Football Association for marking its 70th anniversary, noting that the association is carrying out a function in sport that is badly needed.
