published: Wednesday | November 19, 2008

VIKINGS AND Venus, joint men's leaders in the Jamaica Volleyball Association Club's League, secured important victories on the weekend at G.C. Foster College.

Vikings, the reigning Division One champions, defeated MOSA 3-2 while Venus enjoyed a win by the same margin over The University of West Indies (UWI) A.

Both teams, with the victories, moved to nine points, three ahead of Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) on six.

JDF win

In other men's games in Division One on Saturday, JDF secured a victory over Vikings, which failed to show.

In Division Two, University of Technology (UTech) beat Jago 3-0 for their first win while Patriots downed G.C. Foster 3-1.

In women's matches on Saturday, MOSA beat G.C. Foster College 3-0 and UWI B stopped UTech 3-1.

On Sunday, JDF outscored MOSA 3-1 in the lone division one men's game while Titans thrashed Venus B 3-0 and Pioneers edged UWI B 3-2 in Division Two.

First victory

Also on Sunday, the Stephanie Hylton-managed G.C. Foster College team, reigning intercollegiate champions, secured their first victory of the season - a 3-0 win over UTech. MOSA, who joined the idle UWI A on nine points, also had a 3-0 win, over Venus.

Pioneers and Titans on eight points each lead groups A and B in Division Two.

Tomorrow, UWI B face UTech in a men's Division Two match at 8:00 p.m., while UWI A play UWI B in a women's game at 6:00 p.m.
