Keen contests in Burger King 10K
published: Sunday | November 16, 2008

SOME INTERESTING battles are expected in today's Burger King 10K, the final race of the 2008 Burger King/Jamdammers Road Race Series, set to start and finish at Portmore Mall at 3:00 p.m.

A keen struggle is expected in the men's section with the four top runners, Kemoy Campbell of Bellefield High, IT Dat's Rupert Green, Kirk Brown of Ebony Seek and Conroy Crossman of Edwin Allen, all in action.

Green leads the men's section with 34 points ahead of Brown and Crossman, both on 32, and Campbell, the 'King of the Road' who missed a race, on 30.

Finishing chances

Anything less than a top-two finish for Green would mean disaster, while Crossman and Brown will have to win today in order to take the top prize.

If Green finishes second he is certain of the series title as he would move to 42, dismissing fears regardless of whether Crossman or Brown win and move to the same amount of points.

Green would be crowned champion because he has better top place finishes.

Campbell, in the meantime, has a mathematical chance of winning but not if any of his main rivals finish in the top five.

In the female section, the contest is less intriguing as G.C. Foster College's Arieta Martin, who leads with 38 points, seems the winner. Martin is not expected to finish out of the top 10, but if she does she could deprive herself of her second title and first in six years.

In the high schools' section, Edwin Allen on 36 points, Holmwood, 33, Kellits, 32, are set for an interesting battle and the girls' contest between leaders Holmwood, 36.5, Edwin Allen, 36, and Bellefield and Manchester, on 27.5 each, should be even hotter.
