Ten-man Boys' Town too hot for Meadhaven

TEN-MAN Boys' Town held off Meadhaven United for a 2-0 win in their Digicel Premier League (DPL) clash at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

Denzil Watson had his second two-goal game in a week, scoring in the 34th and 87th minutes. Watson notched a double last week Thursday in a rescheduled game against St Georges.

Early in the second half, Zico Herrera was shown a red card for pulling down Tafari Fairley outside the 18-yard box after the Meadhaven attacker had beaten Herrera and had only goalkeeper Kirk Porter to get by.

Good chances

Meadhaven's attacks came in droves but they were unable to equalise after Watson had given Boys' Town a first-half lead. Weston Forrest had equally good chances in either half but was excellently denied by Porter. Midfielder Keammar Daley, after beating three defenders, watched his floater go just wide of goal.

Rohan Williams, however, came closest to scoring for the first-year DPL team after his shot was cleared off the line by Daemion Benjamin.

Williams' shot appeared to have crossed the goal line before Benjamin cleared it but the appeal by Meadhaven was rejected. Benjamin had to be escorted off the field after colliding with the post.

"It's really difficult when you play good football and still lose," said Meadhaven coach Alrick Clarke. "We are not capitalising on our chances and we just have to keep on working hard."

Right winger Nathan Wyatt was a second-half substitute and his enterprising run resulted in Watson's second goal. Sliding into the six-yard box, Watson stuck out his boot just in time to direct Wyatt's cross in to the goal.
