Waterhouse's woes continue against dogged Reno
published: Thursday | October 23, 2008

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

WATERHOUSE WERE frustrated in their ambitions to break free of a three-game slump as they were held 2-2 by Reno in the Digicel Premier League clash at the Waterhouse Stadium yesterday.

Following a promising start to the season, the Drewsland team has failed to capture full points in its past four games, losing the previous three.

Things threatened to continue going along that vein when the visitors took the lead in the 25th minute.

Gary McIntosh collected a well-measured pass before splitting the Waterhouse back line to roll the ball wide of custodian Maurice Evans.

Life line

Trailing well into the second half, Waterhouse's Kevin Lamey threw the team a life line when he rose in the area to head home a 68th-minute cross.

Waterhouse were elated five minutes later as Lamey booted the ball into the back of the net again, but McIntosh cancelled out that effort with his second of the game in the 78th minute.

Waterhouse had another chance to seal the deal in the 88th minute as a brilliant pass from Lamey out of midfield picked out Kirk Ramsey sprinting free down the right flank. Ramsey, in turn, picked out Waterhouse's leading scorer, Jermaine Anderson, no more than six yards away from goal, but the forward managed to scoop his effort high over the target.

"I am a bit disappointed in the effort. We knew we needed a win coming from back-to-back losses, but it just didn't happen for us today," said Waterhouse coach Wayne Fairclough.

Struggle

"I think we have continued to struggle with a couple of our defenders out in terms of conceding goals but it is something we will continue to work on," he said.

Reno coach Wendell Downswell, despite leading the game for a good portion, was not disappointed in the draw and described his team as a work in progress.

"I don't think it was a bad result, it was a point away from home. We would have wanted a win, but we played a better first half and they played a better second half, so perhaps it was a fair result," he said.

"The team is a pretty young one and we are a work in progress and we are not too far off where we want to be at this point in the season," he said.
