Campbell outlines leadership vision
published: Sunday | October 19, 2008

Campbell

PERFORMANCE, growth innovation and development are the key aims of Paul Campbells Leadership for Today ... Vision for Tomorrow team heading into Thursdays Jamaica Cricket Associations (JCA) presidential election at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

The Leadership for Today ... Vision for Tomorrow team produced a 12-point manifesto at its launch on Friday at the Terra Nova Hotel.

Among the teams global, regional and local views are to treat cricket as a business and promote cricketer awareness, which includes protecting their rights, images and safety, along with insurance.

The Campbell team also wants to see greater player development; technical and infrastructural development; improved cricket administration, organisation and financial sustainability; the creation of a cricket centre of excellence; more resources for youth programmes and the imple-mentation of a fully professional cricket league in the island by 2012.

Current gains

At the launch, Campbell also spoke of some of the major developments which took place under the current administration, which he and five members of his team were a part of in recent years.

They included indoors nets, bowling machines and an electronic scoreboard at Sabina Park, coaches exposed to high-level courses and the infrastructural development fund ($10 million), which was created in 2007 to assist clubs and parishes.

It was against this background that Pat Anderson, president of the Manchester Cricket Association, stated, What dont break, dont change. We have a vice-president (Campbell) understudying Jackie Hendriks for four years, so give him a chance.

Alva Anderson, president of the Kingston Cricket Club, said his executive endorsed Campbells slate.

Administrators needed

Anderson said just because the opponent (Courtney Walsh) was a former player did not mean he would make a good administrator.

There are a few sporting figures that came out at the top, but ended up as good administrators. We have tried it in the West Indies, and very few of them have passed the test.

What the administration requires is administrators. People with leadership quality, people with vision. Thats what the Paul Campbell team has.

Club support

Campbell, who has served as first vice-president of the JCA for four years, said, I believe my time has come to lead.

If the turn-out at Fridays launch was anything to go by, Kingston CC, St Elizabeth, St Catherine Parish, St Catherine CC, Portland, Manchester, Boys Town, Domtar, Business House, Kensington, Lucas, Westmoreland and JDF are in Campbells corner.
