The Editor, Sir:
Danville Walker is a modern-day national hero who should be embraced, supported and encouraged by all well-thinking Jamaicans.
During his tenure with the Electoral Office of Jamaica, he worked tirelessly and selflessly to clean up a system that was in total disarray. As a result of his leadership, Jamaica can now boast of an electoral system that is first-class, a system that is indeed free and fair and free from fear. His tireless and sacrificial efforts should not go unnoticed.
In recent times, he has taken on one of the most critical, albeit challenging, jobs in Jamaica as head of customs. It is no secret that the country has been losing millions.
tracking actions, pronouncements
Let me say that I have never met or spoken to Mr Walker; however, I have been tracking his actions and pronouncements over the years and I am totally impressed with his resolute and decisive stance in executing his duties.
Since the Summer Olympics, held in Beijing, China, where Jamaica gained a record-breaking five gold medals, I have been on a mission to identify and recognise Jamaicans, particularly in the public service, who have demonstrated the golden spirit of the Jamaican athletes. This gold medal goes to Danville Walker, patriot par excellence! Kudos to you, Walker! Keep up the excellent performance!
I am, etc.,
