WHATEVER THEY turn up with today, they are not expected to follow the blue and white, RX-7 Mazda of Peter Bull Thompson, at tomorrows grand finale race meet at the Dover Raceway, St Ann.
We are trying again with the turbo engine, Thompson tells Automotives, while on his way to the track on Friday.
Dubbed the Heroes of Speed race meet, the Cable and Wireless BroadBand-sponsored event begins at 10 a.m. Qualifying session is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
veteran driver
Speaking very confidently, the veteran race driver promises his fans that he will be displaying his best, while having fun. Bull Thompson is expected to dominate the track today because the fast cars of David Summerbell and Doug Gore will not be in action.
According to a report from the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC), the Clarendon-based driver (Thompson) has failed to satisfy his multitude of fans for much of this year, going missing in action since a damaged engine ended his promising run at the Easter meet.
Plans to upgrade the car to a more fighting form with a turbo-charged rotary engine ended in misery on several occasions. Reports are that the car is currently in Guyana for the third leg of the Caribbean Drivers Championship, which is scheduled to conclude in November.
Both Summerbell and Gore are hoping to cement their hold on the regional title.
Gore will be driving his rally car, an Evolution 10, which he has since prepared for the challenging Dover circuit.
The fans are in some for serious excitement, says Gore, who believes that Bull Thompson is the man they all have to beat.
main threat
Thompsons main threat will be Guy Frazer, representing the Team MoBay camp. There are reports that Summerbell may be driving his old Mitsubishi Evolution, which he sold recently. If the car is available, he will compete in the Modified Production Class.
I am hoping to put in an excellent performance to entice some new sponsors for the 2009 season, comments Peter Rae, shortly after returning from Miami on Friday.
With seven of the eight class championships and overall titles still open, fans can expect a fitting climax to what has been a record year.
Apart from the excitement on the track, there will be a clash between two top American riders and the Jamaicans, plus dirt-bike racing.
