Cheapside, Ballards Valley clash in second semi-final
published: Sunday | October 12, 2008

LACOVIA:

BALLARDS VALLEY and Cheapside will do battle in the second semi-final of the Uprising Intown Supersave 35-over cricket competition at the Ballards Valley ground in Junction, St. Elizabeth today at 10: 30 a.m.

In the first semi-final play-off last Sunday, Try Hall Cricket Club secured their spot in the final by beating Comma Pen on a better run rate (8.31-8.97) after heavy rain brought the game to a close early in the afternoon.

Try Hall, who batted first, were all out for 291. Heidi Bent top scored with 85. Ziggy Levy, 2-32, and Algrove Johnson, 2-43, were the best bowlers for Comma Pen.

In reply, Comma Pen made 192-7 from 21.4 overs with Bent, 2-48, and Dave Dyght, 3-51, doing the most damage for the victors.

Today's match-up should be very competitive as 14 of the parish players will be on show to display their skills.

The home team, Ballard Valley, which is captain by batsman David Davidson who has scored 225 runs including two hundreds, also features all-rounder Andre Russell, who scored 116 runs and Damian Ebanks, as well as bowlers Mark Gordon (nine wickets) and Jermaine Blackwood (six).

Cheapside will depend on Jeremy Merchant, parish team captain Ainsley Goss, who has taken 10 wickets, and Steven Patterson to lead their attack.

The final will be played on October 26 at the Uprising Sports Grounds.
