'Lie nuh kill nuh baddie'
published: Sunday | October 12, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Glen Campbell is quite convincing and brilliant when in the most ironic situation of lying and deceit in his current play, Love Games, he declares, "Knife kill people, gun kill people, heart attack and stroke kill people, but, lie nuh kill nuh baddie."

It's just acting, I hear some people say, and we all laugh at the moment, dismissing it as just mere entertainment. And many Jamaicans, I am sure, are taking comfort in that admission.

Lying is defined as an intentionally false statement, something that deceives. Then the very act in itself is wrong, because Satan is a liar and the father of it, because there is no truth in him. (John 8: 44)

Covenant with death

Isaiah 28:15 states: "Because we have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us for we have made lies our refuge and under falsehood have we hid ourselves."

Please be reminded that it was lying that helped in putting Jesus to death, so it is within His rights to let you know that all "liars, unbelieving the abominable, sorcerers, idolaters, murderers, whoremongers, shall have their part in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone which is the second death." (Revelation 21: 8)

I am, etc.,

JOY FRASER
