The Editor, Sir:I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, and make three trips to Negril each year - and not finding too many people who are not courteous.
I actually think that Jamaicans are better than most Americans. I spend some of my time on the beach and a lot of my time in the countryside, feeling safe, seeing smiling faces,
There are several people in this world that just need a good-morning, good-afternoon, good-evening or a hello as you walk by.
It is worth the smile that we get from people. It takes less muscles to smile and more muscles to frown.
At the company where I work, I start out each meeting with a nice greeting of 'good-morning' and, out of a crowd of 20 people in the meeting, there are only two people who reply to me. But each day, I continue to do it.
So to answer the question, 'Do you believe Jamaicans are too discourteous?', I say no.
Americans are worse, I believe. Have a super day and I enjoy reading the paper online so I know what is going on in my home away from home.
I am, etc.,
