Blessing in disguise
published: Tuesday | October 7, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Dr Peter Phillips' defeat in the recent presidential race of the People's National Party (PNP) is a blessing in disguise and Comrades should be proud today to be members of the PNP.

I must commend the party president and Opposition Leader, Portia Simpson Miller on her wisdom in forming a shadow Cabinet which reflects youth and experience. This shadow Cabinet consists of some of Jamaica's brightest minds and the PNP will be better off because of this cabinet.

Use fresh minds

My only advice to the party president is that it is full time for the PNP to settle down and become the watchdog over the purse of the Jamaican people.

In the same breath, the party must use the fresh minds of Hanna, Headley, Waite, Golding, Brown-Burke Sandrea Falconer and others to develop policies which will take back Jamaica to its former glory. Congrats, Mrs Portia Simpson Miller, this time you got it right.

I am, etc.,

WAYNE SIMMONDS
