Reggae Boyz rolling in for crucial Cup matches
published: Monday | October 6, 2008

Shavar Thomas

Reggae Boyz Shavar Thomas and Damion Stewart arrived in the island yesterday and 14 other members of Jamaica's senior football team are scheduled to land today.

The Boyz are rolling in as Jamaica prepare for their mammoth task of beating Mexico and Honduras at the National Stadium on Saturday and next Wednesday respectively, in CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.

The players scheduled to arrive today are Dane Richards, Marlon King, Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Ricardo Gardner, Ricardo Fuller, Demar Phillips, Jermaine Johnson, Omar Daley, Claude Davis, Oneil Thompson, Luton Shelton, Tyrone Marshall, Omar Cummings and Demar Stewart.

Wins are a must

Ian Goodison, Wolry Wolfe and Rudolph Austin, who will arrive tomorrow, complete the list of overseas-based players.

Wins are a must at 'The Office' as Jamaica try to defy the odds and qualify to the final round, from the bottom of the group.

Mexico are atop the group with nine points, followed by Honduras with six, while Canada and Jamaica have a point each.

Interim coach Theodore Whitmore invited nine foreign players that were ignored by former technical director, René Simoes.

Simoes was sacked by the Jamaica Football Federation for the poor results in the first-leg matches. Jamaica's final game of the round will be against Canada, also at the National Stadium, on November 19.

Former England player John Barnes, who signed a one-year contract following Simoes' firing, will take charge of the Canada game. Barnes was born in Jamaica.
