Start with Guiding Light

Orville Clarke, Gleaner Writer

With nine races scheduled for Caymanas Park tomorrow, the Pick-9 will commence from the very first race to be contested by native-bred two-year-olds over 1100 metres.

Meanwhile, similar to Wednesday, the Super-6 will be conducted from race three to nine.

We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a $470,000 -$440,000 claiming race to be contested by seven starters over 1400 metres. While REGGAE RUCKUS has worked well in preparation for this race and SIR KHAN will be better for that disappointing run behind the 30-1 outsider PIECEAFOOT recently, the one to beat must be GUIDING LIGHT with champion jockey Omar Walker slated.

The stretch-running six-year-old gelding steps down from overnight allowance company to high claiming and having finished a close third to MATINEE and subsequent winner PRIME MINISTER over 1600 metres on September 6, should prove too strong for REGGAE RUCKUS in the drive, having won twice at this level in the summer.

Next on the programme is a restricted allowance II (non winners of two) for native bred three-year-olds over the straight five course with 10 declared.

Many-time champion trainer holds a strong hand with both HONEY BUNNY under leading all-time jockey Winston Griffiths and LIMA'S BIGBADBOY with apprentice Jason Samson up.

Caught the eye at exercise

The filly HONEY BUNNY has really caught the eye at exercise in preparation for this race and although worst drawn at post position one, has the speed to angle across from early. She should win from LIMA'S BIGBADBOY (loves the straight), FOREVER MINE and THE PRINCIPAL, who has worked well and is pretty light for this race.

Race three, the $630,000 Jockey Club Stakes over 1400 metres, should see the recent winners LOVINGGOOD and MR BLAIR along with GRACE MARIE and QUEEN OF MY HEART in serious contention where it matters.

The consistent GRACE MARIE is definitely the pick at the weights, now stepping down from open allowance to overnight company.

She will report well refreshed from a three-month absence and based on her strong second to subsequent grade one winner CHADMAN over the distance on May 31, she looks the one to beat with only 51.0kg and 2.0kg claiming apprentice Rayan Wilson aboard.

Briefly, MOST WANTED, who is basically better than a $180,000 claiming tag, gets the nod over RISING MOON and STACKA in the sixth race over the straight, while it should be the recent course winner ITALQUEEN to repeat in the seventh over 1100 metres, and MUCHO GUSTO to make amends for his near miss against MEDICAL REPORT in last Saturdays Reggae Trophy, again over the straight.
