Frome Tech make it four straight
published: Friday | October 3, 2008

Adrian Frater, News Editor

WESTERN BUREAU:

FROME TECHNICAL recorded their fourth win of the season and pulled to within two points of zone leaders Rusea's yesterday when they defeated Anchovy 2-1 in their ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup game at Frome in Westmoreland.

Frome's win, which lifted them to 13 points, was sweet revenge for the first-round 1-0 loss they suffered to Anchovy.

Meanwhile, Anchovy suffered their fourth consecutive loss after starting the season with back-to-back wins against Frome and Knockalva and are in deep trouble on a mere six point from six games.

"It was a good competitive game but once we went 2-0 up in the first half, we were pretty much in control," said 'Boysie' Nicholson, the technical director of the Frome team. "Anchovy played very well at the start of the second half but we played well defensively and were able to contain them," he said.

Went ahead

After enjoying the better of the early exchanges, Frome went ahead in the 16th minute when wily Inique Findlay fired them into a 1-0 lead. Ricardo Munroe made it 2-0 in the 40th minute when he breached the Anchovy defence, making the half-time score 2-0.

Anchovy started the second half purposefully and were rewarded in the 61st minute when Dave Cole, who had a good game and threatened the Frome goal several times, finally got one of his efforts on target.

Meanwhile, over in the competitive Zone E, the three front-runners Lacovia, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Munro College all scored important wins as the battle for the group's two inter-zone places continues to be an intriguing affair.

Lacovia had a 1-0 win against Black River to move up to 19 points. Second-place St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) clipped Maggotty 1-0 to progress to 18 points while third-place Munro College (13) kept themselves in the hunt with a 4-1 trouncing of Balaclava.
