Crime must be uprooted!
published: Friday | October 3, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I would like to make an appeal to the Government of Jamaica; if the People's National Party had been in Government, my appeal would be the same and, in fact, has been the same.

Jamaica, land we love, deserves a government that works, the people want to be led, in the interest of the survival of our great little nation. I beseech you, LEAD. The scourge of crime and violence must not be pruned; it must be uprooted. We owe it to Jamaica to make the tough decisions now before it is too late, you cannot, and must not, allow polls and outcry to deter you from the task at hand.

Jamaicans all over the world are yearning to return home with their savings, their businesses, their pensions and social security cheques, but they can't, because of the security concerns they have. The country is drowning in its own blood, you must stop the haemorrhaging, so that we all can return home to create the jobs the country so desperately needs; but before this can happen you must do your job.

Good life

In the long run, your party and legacy will be vindicated, everyone wants a good life. They will get over complaining about the hard-nosed policing as soon as jobs are being created, and they see the changes in their lives.

Mister Golding, you have a choice, you can be just another prime minister, or you can be Jamaica's best ever. The ball is in your court, sir.

I am, etc.,

MICHAEL BECKLES
