His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain greets Spanish Ambassador to Jamaica Jesús Silva. - Contributed

Spanish Ambassador to Jamaica Jesús Silva will host his King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia for their first official visit to Jamaica from December 2-4. The ambassador told The Gleaner the invitation was extended because the king has not been to Jamaica before and the Governor General and government invited him here.

"It seems appropriate at this time, as apart from historical links, Spain has many companies investing here. We also have increased the relationship between the countries," the ambassador said.

The king wants to know Jamaica, and it will be a good occasion to encourage interesting new ways of cooperation in health, the restoration of Spanish Town, possible new investments, economic relations and cultural exchange.

Among the places likely to be visited by the royals are Spanish Town and Montego Bay. There are cultural activities planned and also a possible investor's forum with companies from both countries. There will be also opening ceremonies of some of the hotels recently opened.

So let's show the royal couple a really splendid time when they arrive.
