Taking crime seriously
published: Wednesday | October 1, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The government and people of Jamaica don't seem to take crime seriously. I say that because all that is happening is lip service. Crime can be reduced to acceptable levels if everyone takes this issue seriously. Firstly, the Government must develop the will to get serious and the citizenry must back the efforts of the Government.

There must be cameras all over the centres of Jamaica so that the various security agencies can see what is happening on the ground. If that were the case, the police would see who took that 11-year-old up to Belvedere and rape and killed her. That is outrageous.

'Bandolooism'

The police must see what is happening downtown, Slipe Rd, KPH, Slipe Pen Road etc, etc, etc. The people must stop relying on the system of 'bandolooism' and expose the criminal element in our society.

With this done, there will be no stopping the Jamaican economy because we have all the tools and human resources to be the best.

Tourism will bring more revenue to Jamaica than we can imagine; information technology will improve; there will be meaningful jobs for the people of my beautiful island.

Please do your part my people.

I am, etc.,
