KSAC halts vending in Half-Way Tree
published: Friday | September 26, 2008

The Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) has sus-pended vending in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, with immediate effect.

The corporation said the suspension will remain, pending a meeting with vendors on Sunday, and a clean-up of the parish capital on October 1.

Among the issues of concern are unauthorised vending around the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre, increasing traffic problems, the building of a number of stalls, urinating in the town and cooking on the streets.

No collection of fees

Mayor of Kingston Desmond McKenzie said in a press release yesterday that collection of vending fees will be discontinued and all forms of vending considered illegal, pending the clean-up operation.

The meeting on Sunday, to which all vendors are invited, is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the KSAC's 24 Church Street building in downtown Kingston.
