JNA in need of $5m for tri-nation series
published: Tuesday | September 23, 2008

Hamilton

Sonia Hamilton, chief executive officer of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA), said the association is in need of approximately $5 million to host the tri-nation series, which involves Trinidad and Tobago and South Africa.

The series is scheduled to take place at the National Indoor Sports Complex from November 10-13.

"We are currently in negotiation with a few companies (for sponsorship), but we would still need any additional support we can get from corporate Jamaica," Hamilton told The Gleaner yesterday.

Maintain ranking

The Sunshine Girls, who are ranked number four in the world, captured the bronze medal, beating England in the third-place play-off at the last World Cham-pionships, in Auckland, New Zealand.

However, they later slipped to fourth place as they were earlier beaten 3-0 in a series against England.

Hamilton added that the series was very important and could help the team maintain its high world ranking.

"This is a very important series for us because of the new ranking system by the International Federation of Netball Associations. It will go towards improving our ranking or maintaining of our position at number four," Hamilton noted.

She is urging everyone to get on board and support the Sunshine Girls, as they have been making the country proud for a number of years.

"I want to encourage Jamaicans to come on board and support the Sunshine Girls because we are the most successful female team in this country," Hamilton noted.
