The Editor, Sir:
I do applaud the fact that you are all trying to clean up the Customs, but trying to clean out other people's pockets when receiving a gift does not really cut it.
Do you know how long it takes to put together a barrel for shipment to ease the economic constraints on your loved ones? What consideration is given for these erroneous charges which exceeds even if competing with the US?
Unfortunate experience
I have had the unfortunate experience for two consecutive years, as we say in Jamaica, taking shame out of our eyes by sending clothes for an impending arrival of both my grandchildren.
After trying to shop for several months to acquire enough, especially on the second occasion, I was charged J$18,000 for a package less than 50-lb in weight.
I cannot believe this is what my country has come to. Please consider improving the services being rendered to the citizens, that it's the senders who still have to pay and the equation is no less balanced.
I am, etc.,
