More concerns re teen model
published: Tuesday | September 23, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I am very happy to see that I am not the only one who has concerns over young Shermonique Ivey who was selected as the Pulse fashion model and I would like to crave your indulgence in allowing me to make a few further comments on the situation.

Having been herself a teenage mother, I am not convinced that Shermonique's parent Glenda Baker is the right person to counsel her daughter in making the right choices in life.

If it is true, according to Mr Cooper, that Shermonique will not be modelling until after she has left school, than what was the purpose of her entering the contest at this time?

The photograph that accompanied Mr Cooper's statement in the press, showing him and the young lady in an adult type dress that is totally inappropriate for her childish body structure, does very little to counter the fears of persons like myself who are concerned about her welfare.

I am, etc,

Dr MARCIE HAMILTON
