SAJ gets a new financial controller
published: Tuesday | September 23, 2008

Andrea McGibbon - Contributed

On meeting Andrea McGibbon, the first thing that catches you is her playful personality. But don't be fooled. When it comes to work, she is a no-nonsense, analytical, strategic and organised leader.

Newly appointed to the post of financial controller at the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ), McGibbon believes she has the required knowledge base, drive and experience and will use the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the shipping industry.

Solid background

McGibbon has a solid background in accounting which is backed by her academic achievements, which includes a CPA Designation, a master of science in accounting and a bachelor of science in accounting with a minor in economics both from the University of the West Indies. She admits that she developed a love for numbers while attending the St Andrew High School for Girls, but only became sure of a career in accounts while pursuing her first degree.

Prior to joining the SAJ, McGibbon served in various capacities at Guardian Life Limited for nine years, where she distinguished herself as a supervisor for budgeting and cash flow, a management accountant and manager financial planning and expense control. Her outstanding performance did not go unrecognised as she received several awards including the President's Award in 2006 and the Leadership Award in 2007.

McGibbon has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants since 2007.
