Jamaica U-20s seek sweep against El Salvador

JAMAICA'S UNDER-20 footballers will be seeking to wrap-up their two-match friendly series against El Salvador today at the Ferdie Neita Park starting at 5:00.

The Young Reggae Boyz defeated the El Salvadorians 1-0 in the opening game on Friday night at the Harbour View Mini Stadium.

Substitute Rohan Roye scored the all-important goal for the Jamaicans in the 60th minute when he fired home a powerful point-blank shot past goalkeeper Diego Cuellar, courtesy of a well-flighted cross from teammate Andre Steele.

Donavan Duckie, coach of the young Jamaicans, said they would be going all-out for victory today.

changes

"We will be treating this game the same way as the first one, even though we will be making a few changes to the team," said Duckie, who was recently appointed technical director of Portmore United.

"We have a very big squad and we want to give everyone a chance so that they will gain some experience playing against a quality team like El Salvador," he said.

Duckie said he was pleased with the performance and the level of maturity shown by his side.

"It was a good effort from us because I think the experience was very good for the players," said Duckie.

defensive

"I think we were very patient and very disciplined in our defensive third. Our transition was also very good because we created three clear chances which we should have put away easily," he said.

The Jamaicans are using the matches as part of their preparation for the Under-20 World Cup qualifiers which will be held in Aruba in November.

Jose Norberto Huezo, coach of El Salvador, said: "We have to win this next match because we have a lot more options than the Jamaicans. We had a lot more ball possession than Jamaica in the first game, and all we needed to do was score the goals," Huezo said.
