The SMOKER (left), ridden by champion jockey Omar Walker, wins the Cecil C. Charlton Trophy over 1300m at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, ahead of long-time leader GOOD SENSE.
Both the Pick-9 and Super-6 start anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow after both were cornered by punters on Wednesday.
The Pick-9, which embraces races two to 10, has a guaranteed minimum of $1 million, while the Super-6, from race four to nine, offers a guaranteed minimum of $500,000.
We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a $220,000-$200,000 claiming race over 1500 metres to be contested by nine starters, including the recent winners MEDICAL ACCOUNT and THUNDERCLAP, both stepping up in class with THUNDERCLAP seeking the hat-trick.
Better proposition
With the competition enhanced, THUNDERCLAP apparently has extra to find, but Saturday's scorer, MEDICAL ACCOUNT, looks a better proposition with champion jockey Omar Walker now taking the ride.
However, the one to beat must be the down-in-class MARKET BRIDLE, who was a narrow winner over 1400 metres on August 9 with apprentice Everton Bennett in the saddle. Bennett again has the ride. Briefly, ITALQUEEN, with Walker aboard, gets the nod over DESIGNED FOR LUCK in the fifth race over 1100 metres.
Other firm fancies in the remaining Super-6 races are LADY RAKWALAAY in the 6th, IMAGE DANCER to stave off CALVIN THE GREAT in the 7th, NATURALLY ROYAL as a banker in the 8th, and IVAN THE TERRIBLE, a narrow loser to ALLIEDFORCE in the recent PM Stakes, to nose out hat-trick seeker AD INFINITUM in the graded stakes feature (9th race) for the Viceroy Trophy over 1800 metres.
