Bad US model
published: Friday | September 12, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

As a child, I heard that the streets of London were paved with gold. To my surprise, it turned out to be quite untrue.

Alas, many Jamaicans continue to see greener grass on their neighbour's patch. P. Logan, in his letter of September 10, called for a national disaster centre based on the USA model. Well, we all saw how well that worked in New Orleans. Was that better than what the Jamaican Government had done?

If we need a model, then look no further than Cuba, and they do it on a shoestring budget. But Cuba has one advantage that Jamaica lacks and that is a governable population.

I am, etc.,
