Kudos to Bouygues

Kudos to the French construction company, Bouygues Travaux, for effecting, as part of what it deems its corporate responsibility, the necessary repairs to the Bog Walk gorge that was destroyed by the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav.

No doubt, its decision to undertake the repairs to the gorge, free of cost, will save the taxpayers of this country a good sum by preventing the diversion of the already thinly stretched state funds from other critical sectors or projects.

The cynics among us are probably of the view that Bouygues is making a lot of money off us through the Highway 2000 toll road, so giving back some of what they are overcharging us is nothing to laud them about.

Even assuming that Bouygues was motivated so to act, it would at least have a corporate conscience for seeking to give something back in a meaningful way. Either way, Bouygues deserves our commendation and appreciation.

Obama and Biblical truths

It troubles me very much when so-called ministers of the gospel can chose a man such as Obama for the colour of his skin and not the biblical truths concerning abortion or support of Israel, etc.

Republican or Democratic Party has nothing to do with the prosperity of the USA. It is a spiritual matter.

Close down the OUR

With oil prices falling over the last three months by over 27 per cent, how does JPS have the nerve to tell us that next month's bills will reflect a reduction of nine per cent on fuel and IPP charges?! And where is the biggest waste of taxpayers' dollars in all of this? - the Office of Utilities Regulation.

A word of advice to the prime minister and minister of energy, close down the OUR now and find a better use for the cost of running that institution.

Maurice McNish

I'm trying to find my paternal family. I've never met my father and would love to have the opportunity to meet anyone who can give me information about him.

My mother told me that my dad is from Kingston. I, however, was born in Westmoreland in 1961. His name is Maurice McNish and he might be in his 80s.
