Visa cat and mouse
published: Thursday | September 11, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Please allow me to use your editorial page to write an open letter to the US ambassador to Jamaica.

Dear Madam,

Many persons including myself have been trying for months on end to make appointments for a visa interview at the Kingston US Embassy office without luck. I have written to them via their website, only to be told they don't make appointments and I should watch the site daily to see if there is any opening. I think if you are going to take people's money for a service, the service must be completed and the clients should not be frustrated.

The people of Jamaica deserve to be treated better.

An insult

Please sort out the problem you are having. Most of us are busy people, so to be told to 'web watch' is an insult to us. Frankly, I believe the moment we paid our monies and filled out the application form, an appointment date should be automatically generated.

Mrs Johnson, please fix the problem because there is no refund after a year and I know people who have been waiting over six months.

I am, etc.,

EMILY CHRISTIAN

Montego Bay
