CHAMPION JOCKEY Omar Walker notched his 200th career win at Caymanas Park yesterday and wasted no time going for his third century in riding five winners on the 10-race programme.
It was a case of the 25-year-old apprentice killing two birds with one stone, as he marked his 100th winner of the season as well.
His winners were the even-money favourite TESSANNE in the second race (his 200th winner) for maiden three-year-olds over 1,400 metres, stable-companion AHWHOFAH also at evens in the fourth race over 1,300m for overnight allowance horses, the two-year-old debutante REGGAE PRINCESS a 3-4 favourite in the sixth for maidens, as well as 7-5 favourite CHADMAN in the day's graded stakes feature for the Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy over 1,300m and 2-1 favourite YOSHI in the closing straight five race for $180,000 claimers.
It was befitting that his first four winners were saddled by his apprentice master, champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, for whom he rode his very first winner, SUPER NATURAL, on his first day in the saddle - Saturday, July 29, 2006.
This was the second time Walker notched five winners on a programme. The jockey was elated in marking his 200th win aboard the first of his eight rides, and his 100th aboard the last of them - YOSHI.
Super-fit chadman
He said: "I feel happy achieving both milestones today and I will continue to work hard, be loyal to owners and trainers and give of my best at all times."
The super-fit American six-year-old gelding CHADMAN chalked up his third grade one win in recent months when staving off RAMPAGE (7-2) by three quarters of a length in the Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy contested by seven horses. And the three-year-old filly AHWHOFAH turned heads in slamming her nine opponents in the smart time of 1:17.1 for 1,300m, this more than a second faster that CHADMAN's in the 'A1' class feature.
Big weight
Always prominent as the rank outsider, ASKAWOMAN (66-1) led in tearaway fashion, CHADMAN disposed of her approaching the home turn to straighten three lengths clear. But the big weight began to take its toll on him in the last furlong and he had to be driven in the closing stages to hold the fast-finishing RAMPAGE at bay.
Owned by Bitter Sweet, CHADMAN had previously won the valuable Digicel Irish Jamaican Stakes over the same distance on June 14 (Derby Day) and also the She's On Wheel's Trophy over 1100 metres on July 18.
