The Editor, Sir:
I am amazed at our Jamaican politicians. My amazement is not related to Tuesday night's walkout of Parliament by the PNP members, nor to the reason or the document which prompted the walkout.
My concern is about the number of MPs at sittings.
Missing representatives
The country elected 60 representatives but on this occasion 18 were missing - 12 PNP and six JLP. Where were they when an important document as the trading arrangements was being discussed or debated?
Perhaps a report should be published regularly on attendance of members, giving the electors an idea of how they are being represented.
MPs are servants of the people, and therefore accountable to their electors. There could be a plausible reason for absence, but just under a third at one sitting seems a bit much.
I am, etc,
