Don't oppose Ahwhofah
published: Friday | August 29, 2008

Orville Clarke, Gleaner Writer

Thanks to a stunning upset by the 90-1 outsider MEDSTAR in the eighth race at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, the Pick-9 had no takers.

Weather permitting, the carryover to tomorrow's meet stands at $1 million. Despite the big upset by the Dane Nelson-ridden MEDSTAR, the Super-6 was caught by one lucky punter. He walked away $1.4 million richer.

Meanwhile, the Pick-9 will embrace races two to 10 on tomorrow's programme; the Super-6 from race four to nine. We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a three-year-old and up overnight allowance race over 1300 metres to be contested by 10 starters, including the talented three-year-old filly AHWHOFAH, under champion jockey Omar Walker.

From the stables of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, AHWHOFAH looked real smart when scoring over 1400 metres in fast time on July 19 and having moved impressively at exercise, looks hard to oppose with only 53.0kg.

REGAL SELECTION, who won in a fast time (1:25.3) over 1400 metres on August 6, holds the key to the knotty looking fifth race over 1500 metres in which the recent winners MR BLAIR, WHEEL N DEAL and MACHISMO are worthy opponents in a field of eight.

Walker and trainer DaCosta should have yet another winner on the card in the well-forward two-year-old debutante REGGAE PRINCESS (working well) in the sixth race or the Rhoel Rhoden Memorial Cup over 1100 metres.
