Gustav closes down some sports
published: Friday | August 29, 2008

TROPICAL STORM Gustav yesterday forced the cancel-lation of a number of spor-ting events across the island.

The first leg of the inaugural CONCACAF Champions League, between Caribbean Club champions Harbour View and Pumas Unam of Mexico, will be played tonight at 9 in the Harbour View Mini Stadium, weather permitting.

Tomorrow's Jamaica Cricket Association all-island one-day matches have been rescheduled for next Saturday.

The Jamaica Rugby Union workshop, which was scheduled for this weekend at the Brimmer Vale High School in St Mary, has been cancelled until further notice.

Meanwhile, the 44th staging of the Roper Cup football competition between St George's College and Kingston College (KC) is still expected to be held tomorrow at Emmit Park, starting at 8:30 a.m.

The Under-14 and Under-16 teams will compete for the George Thompson Cup, in memory of the late national football coach and KC sportsman who died earlier this year. The over-35 teams will compete for the Pancho Rankin Cup.

This year, the Kingston College Old Boys' Association will honour St George's College old boy, Anthony Yong, and the St George's College Old Boys' Association will honour Kingston College old boy Ronnie Chin.
